Week of Jan 13-16

Hi everyone, here is what is happening this week:

The words for this week are: grande, petite, aller, cherche, monte, j’aime, que, qui, et, ce

In literacy this week, we are continuing with the digramme er as well as working on oi and ez. We will be continuing with writing sentences, looking to add more details like adjectives and other supporting information.

In math, we are continuing to work with addends, addition and subtraction strategies and fractions.

We are continuing with the theme of emotions.

The shelving unit has been completed and the lighting installed, so we will hopefully be able to start germinating some seeds soon!

Water bottles

Just a reminder that we do not have drinking fountains at school, just bottle filling stations. Students must remember their water bottles daily so they can have water to drink.

5-9 janvier

The words of the week this week are: on, mon, bon, de, des, est, ici, il y a, un, une

For Literacy we are working on the diagrams ai, ei, and er. We will also be practicing writing sentences with nouns and verbs (with a review on what a noun and a verb are). We also have a book that we will be reading about the new year that the students will be bringing home for practice on Tuesday.

Our theme for the next week will be continuing on what we started in December on qualities of a good friend.

In Math, we are continuing on the skill of representing relationships of numbers up to 100, with a focus on addition and subtraction strategies and fractions. We will be working on the bridging through 10 strategy for mental math, building numbers with Cuisenaire rods and colouring in fractions.

During explore time this week, we will be working on setting up our classroom garden! Hopefully we will be able to start some seeds by the end of the week.

Just a reminder to make sure that students are dressed to go outside for recess. We will try to spend some time outside for outdoor learning as well on days that are not too cold with the wind chill.

December literacy and math updates

We have finished all of the single letter sounds, including the accents on e and a (é, è, ê, à, â), and we have looked at the multiple sounds that single letters make (like an s making both the s and z sound, c making s and k, etc). We have also worked on double consonants and have starting working on silent letters at the end of words. In the next few weeks, we are going to work on some complex sounds, digrammes and trigrammes, and we will be practicing au, eau, ou, and eu in the next two weeks.

The theme we started last week was about social interactions, so our writing this past week, and the next two weeks, will focus on what are the characteristics that we like in friends and what we need to do to be a good friend.

In Math this past week, we revisited adding and subtracting 10 from a given number. This coming week we will be revisiting addition and subtraction strategies. One of the strategies we will review will be fact families. If you know that 3 + 4 = 7, you can use it to help you figure out what is 7 – 4. These next couple of weeks will be revisiting some of the concepts that proved to be a bit of a struggle on the benchmark assessment.

On Thursday, we received our final part to set up our classroom garden! With only two weeks before the break, we will probably just set up the system, and then we will be able to start planting in January. We’ll hopefully be able to have a ‘salad-bration’ in a few months to celebrate what we grow in the garden and try out some of the different vegetables that we’ll grow.
